These Are A Few of My Favourite Things

I know it's not good to get too attached to things. But there are collected items in my life that I just love to look at! They adorn my living space and make it feel like home for me. Sure, I don't need any of these things to survive, but they sure do make me feel good inside when gaze upon them! A little tour of what resides in my room at my parent's house:

I recently thrifted this bowl on an adventure with my sister. Although not the best thrifting adventure we've had, I managed to snipe this before we left- my big ticket purchase at a whopping $2.00! Woot.

I also only recently found these on this Christmas break, after Christmas. I was grocery shopping with mom at Extra Foods and came across all of the discounted Christmas decor. Among it were these cute little ornaments. I just think they're so precious!

My youngest sister just made this for me this year for Christmas! Isn't it so pretty? I had seen this idea before, but never thought to actually make one!

Most of these are thrifting finds from over the years. I painted the bird- it's a heavy metal thing. The luncheon set, I had bought in summer and blogged about it, another framed hanky sits beside the bird, and the teacup with the pink flowers comes from my grandma's china set which all of the grandchildren received bits of when they moved!

Thrifty Tuesday: Hang It Up

Yes. I realize that the majority of these are wool, appliqued and embroidered ornaments. But I also realize that they are incredibly cute and easy(er) to make than some out there. Somehow, the folklore theme seems to be attractive to me, as well. Once I have time to do crafty things again, I will definitely be whipping some of these up! Is that owl not the cutest little guy?

Thrifty Tuesday: Oh Christmas Tree!

It's time to start thinking about that tree! That common symbolic icon of Christmas. I love it when the tree goes up. It makes me feel warm and cozy inside. I love the smell of pine needles and the fresh feeling a real tree brings. In my montage today, I've included ideas for real trees, but I also like the whimsical quality of the fake ones here. And for someone like me, living on a tight budget and in one small room, I may have to go with the bottom left option... Oh well, I can dream!

Thrifty Tuesday: Christmas Edition

Yes, I realize I have never had a Thrifty Tuesday and therefore have no reason to have a special edition of it, but that's the way it goes around here. Every new idea is a special edition because it usually only stays for so long! I get bored easily, what can I say? But in the weeks leading up to Christmas, I would love to spread a bit of curated inspiration for a handmade Christmas! I am on a tighter than tight budget, so I'll take all the help I can get when it comes to decorating! To start it all off, why not try your hand on one of these fabulous Christmas garlands? They make me think of pretty vintage-y decor and then I start dreaming of Little Women, my favourite Christmas movie, and wish I was one of those girls... I sometimes catch myself living another life in my head. Don't judge me, please.

Top 5 Thrift Finds (Of This Week...)

So the other day I promised to post about my thrift trip and I know, I forgot fashion friday again...next week, I promise. This is kind of a combined thrift/fashion post. With all the hectic happenings of preparing for a new school and new province, it's kind of nice to be able to take a day to thrift. MCC is my friend- we get along pretty great. Here are a few of my finds.

1. Alright, so I will probably never wear this, but I thought it was such a fun vintage nightie, I had to get it. And since it was the "Fit everything into a bag for $5" sale, I couldn't resist. It could come in handy for a photo shoot!

2. An old lady blouse in a pretty print- I may try re-designing it to something more of my liking.

3. I love looking for pretty old pillowcases to use as fabric. This one caught my eye with its dainty blue flower bunches.

4. A nice little nautical scarf. I can never pass up a sailor themed item. If it's got anchors, it's mine!

5. And my favourite (these pics don't keep with my theme of the great outdoors as a background...) a vintage set of milk glass luncheon plates! The last time I saw them at MCC, I had considered buying and didn't and they've kept on popping into my mind ever since. I couldn't pass them up this time. Tea party anyone??
