A Lady and Her Q

Because I am avoiding hand washing my summer sweater (which I have been avoiding for WEEKS because I hate hand washing...) I'm going to take a moment to both procrastinate and introduce to you a lady and her business that I am very proud of... my older sister, Deanne and her Etsy shop, Q Creative. The letter Q, standing for Quinn, who is both her daughter and my niece (read more about that here & here) has been inspiration for her creativity. The items in the shop are a mix of practical creations for both mama and babe. As a very proud younger sister, I just have to declare that they are ALL so cute. She has had quite the boom in the past while with new customers and is constantly coming up with new ideas for products to add to the shop.

A little side note: Those bow ties were added to the shop after we put some together for the groomsmen at my wedding! And oh my. If I had a child, they would be wearing those cute little baby headbands below. 

One of the most popular items (I don't know the count on how many she's made, but I know it's A LOT) is the maxi skirt- a easy breezy summer item that's sold at an easy breezy price.

Starting out Somewhere

I'm going to do a little shameless self promotion today. Even though, I'm in the beginning stages of my career, there comes a point after a certain period of time where you just can't hold onto pieces of work anymore. I've recently hit that point and am storing pieces in every nook and cranny of my living space. So this means, I actually have to get my stuff together and start selling (which is both scary and hard, especially when it comes to motivating myself to do so). The quickest and simplest way for me to start on this venture was to create a Facebook page and post some pieces for sale.  In other news, it's always neat to come across something that I've posted about here on my blog in other regions of the interweb. Today I came across my crochet infinity scarf featured on Tipnut! It's just a link in an article on making crochet scarves, but I was pretty excited to see that I made the cut! You can see the post here!

Artist of the Day: Shauna Buck

 It's been a while for artist of the day. Actually it's been a while for any sort of series that I once started but failed to commit to... I have a mind that gets excited about something quickly and tires of it easily, what can I say? But I have a new vision today. To feature local artists under my Artist of the Day series! This is one talented lady that I have recently discovered and love her work! Shauna Buck is a member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council and I was able to take in her work at a recent festival. Her illustrative pieces are just lovely and she is as well. The pieces are available in a variety of forms- I was able to purchase a small button for my bag which I now carry with me everywhere! Birthday Bonanza

There have been a LOT of birthdays being celebrated around here lately. It's quite the festival of celebration. I took this photo yesterday as my dog, Gabby, was eyeing up the delicious birthday treats. I couldn't resist trying to capture the longing in her eyes!

Speaking of birthdays, mine is approaching quite quickly. On Saturday, I had the chance to pick out an early birthday gift at the market where I was working all day. Cathy Terepocki is an artist from Saskatoon whose work is stunning. She had a booth set up with a variety of mugs, bowls, vases, brooches, earrings and necklaces where I had an incredibly hard time choosing something because they were all just so lovely. I think I want to start a collection (hint for those looking to buy me a gift in the future...). Take a look at a few of her fabulous pieces:

In the end, I was deciding between this mug and another but I ended up choosing the other. This one, however, is also quite adorable. I love sailboats.

Artist of the Day: Mae Handmade

I would like to take a moment and introduce you to a good friend of mine and fellow artist! Meet Richelle Bergen, creator of Mae Handmade. She is an incredibly talented artist and skilled crafts-woman. We have known each other for quite a few years now and she has always inspired me with her creative nature and love for the arts- she has a passion for life that you won't find many places! If you head over to her blog, you will see that she loves thrift shopping, espresso, relaxation, wheat fields, and interior design and I can attest to experiencing all of these things with her in the small town where she lives!

Something From Nothing

I would like to take this time to promote a business and Etsy shop owner very dear to me. She is the own who bestowed me with all genes creative, my mother! She is an artisan working from home to create warm, woolly mittens out of recycled felted sweaters! This is a fantastic way to reuse discarded clothing to produce something functional and cute (especially for those frigid prairie winters!) I have to say, I've received a new pair every winter and they kept my hands toasty all 6 months of winter long- they are the most comfortable pair you will ever own! Take it from a prairie girl who knows (and loves her mom).
